James Ray “Jim” Massengill – Obituary

James Ray “Jim” Massengill, 81, of Killen, passed away February 14, 2017. He was born April 25, 1935 in Chester County, Tenn. Jim graduated from high school in Henderson, Tenn., and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He served in the United States Air Force for four years and worked in the U.S. District Court in Memphis, Tenn. for 29 years before his retirement in July 1994. Jim was an active member of Killen United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also a member of the Killen Lions Club.

 

Visitation will be Friday, February 17, 2017 from 1-2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Brian McIntyre officiating. A private committal will follow the service with military funeral honors.

 

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Jewell Ruth Massengill; first wife, Easter Robbins Massengill; and a niece, Brandy Lois Branch.

 

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lane Massengill; sisters, Joy Ruth Leath (Charles), and Nell Lois Branch (Buddy); brother, Max Roy Massengill (Linda); an aunt, Joyce Andrews of Byhalia, MS.; and nieces and nephews, Anthony Massengill, Jennifer Sanders, Janette Gay, Brenda Goings, and Brian Branch.

 

Memorials may be made to Killen United Methodist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
