John William O’Donnell III – Obituary

Dr. John William O’Donnell III, age 67, passed away July 16, 2016, at his home. A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2016, 6 o’clock p.m., in the chapel of Austin and Bell Funeral Home, Springfield. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until the hour of service at 6 p.m.

Dr. O’Donnell was born May 30, 1949, in Vermont to the late John William and Loretta “Dolly” Lockhart O’Donnell II. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee Knoxville and Vanderbilt University Medical School class of 1975.

For nearly 30 years he served the residents of Robertson County and surrounding communities. He loved golf, art, film, music, family, and delivering babies. His immense generosity, his intellectual curiosity, and his sharp wit will be missed by friends and family.

Dr. O’Donnell is survived by his life partner, Judy Gant; sons, John William (Emily Ahlquist) O’Donnell IV, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Daniel Byron O’Donnell, of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Audrey O’Donnell Patrick, of Nashville, Tennessee; brothers, Tom (Pam) O’Donnell, of Huntsville, Alabama, Jim (Kim) O’Donnell, of Houston, Texas, Dan (Nell) O’Donnell, of Mobile, Alabama, and Mike O’Donnell, of Decatur, Alabama; sister, Patty (Jack) McCoy, of Titusville, Florida; and four grandchildren, Liam, Finn, Molly, and Ellie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shade Tree Clinic at Vanderbilt and may be sent to Austin and Bell Funeral Home, 509 Walnut St., Springfield, TN 37142, (615) 384-1000.

Austin and Bell Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of these arrangements.
