Shooting Death Results In Arrest Of The Victim’s Wife On Murder Charges

DECATUR-The Decatur Police Department released a statement on the shooting death of Edward Owens, II on Saturday, June 26:

“SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
On June 26th, 2016 at 2:46 pm the Morgan County E911 Center received a call from 2907 Lennox Drive Southwest, Decatur. Officers were dispatched to the residence to check the welfare of the family inside.
At the residence, Officers made contact with Michelle Lee Owens as well as a male juvenile.
During the course of the welfare check, Officers located the deceased body of Lawrence Edward Owens II inside the home. Lawrence appeared to have at least one gunshot wound to his person.
Detectives with the Decatur Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, as well as Crime Scene Technicians, the Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn, and Morgan County District Attorney Scott Anderson responded to the scene to begin an investigation into the Lawrence’s death.
During the course of the investigation it was determined that Lawrence had been shot by his wife, Michelle Lee Owens. Michelle was brought to the Decatur Police Department where she was charged with Murder.
Michelle was booked into the Decatur City Jail and will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail at a later time. Her bond has not been set at the time of this release.”
