IMG_0925 copyRED BAY – This week and the next, over 800 area students are visiting Cypress Cove Farm. Going out there is always fun, there’s lots to see. But this project, “Freedom Is Not Free” is special.

Sponsored by the American Legion Post 120 of Red Bay and in its second year, this program is designed to give understanding to young people about the sacrifices American Veterans have made in the cause of Freedom.

It is also a special project by Alabama State Representative Johnny mack Morrow. Morrow and his wife, Martha make their farm available for the program. The kids got to visit military-style tents, inspect troop vehicles from WWII through Desert Storm, and got to tour the farm. At the end of the session, they all assembled in a big barn to hear from the American Legion, Judge Barry Moore, and Representative Morrow. The lesson for the day was simple. The students left with a new understanding of how the sacrifices of Veterans makes their life in America so worthwhile.

They also learned how to thank a Veteran, “Thank you for your service to our Country”, was the watchword of the day.
