ATHENS-The sweet savor of chocolate is like the little black dress. It goes with anything, including galoshes and umbrellas.
The Spirit of Athens is hosting its second annual Chocolate Walk on Saturday, Feb. 8, in downtown Athens. Despite a prediction of 40 percent chance of rain, organizers expect tickets to sell quickly.
Rain drops can’t compete with chocolate drops.
“Chocolate makes any day better even a rainy day,” said SOA Publicity Committee Chairwoman Letisha Brinkley. “And when you add sweet deals from our merchants to an afternoon of sampling chocolate, rain is no excuse to stay home.”
The Chocolate Walk is limited to ticket holders and there are only 125 tickets total available. Cost is $10. Last year’s event sold out.
“Spend the afternoon with your sweetheart or do your Valentine’s Day shopping,” Brinkley said. “This is a great event for couples or a day out with friends.”
The delectable downtown event will be from noon to 5 p.m. at participating merchants. Ticket holders will start at the SOA office at 107 N. Jefferson St. to get their treat bags, a list of sales and a list of participating merchants. Ticket holders who visit all the stores on the list will be entered in a drawing to win one of five $25 Love Bucks to spend at a participating business.
SOA Director Trisha Black said tempting treats offered last year included chocolate punch, brownie bites, chocolate chip ice cream and cookies.
“Part of the enjoyment is seeing what each merchant does to be creative with chocolate,” Black said.
A limited number of tickets are available at U.G. White Mercantile on Jefferson Street. Tickets also are available online. Go to “Spirit of Athens” on Facebook and look for the Chocolate Walk post, which includes a registration link.
