Z. L. Burks, 83, died Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at his home in Peppertown. He was born December 21, 1934, to James Eli and Bessie Hammock Burks. He worked for Senter Transit and Concrete and for the City of Fulton as well as being self-employed in construction work. He operated a fruit stand and was a commercial fisherman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid story teller.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 17, at the Ebenezer Baptist Church near Vina, AL, with Dr. Kevin Clayton officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Monlue Burks; one daughter, Debra Tramel (Larry), all of Fulton; one brother, Noble Burks of Tremont; one sister, Faye Thomas (Alvie) of Red Bay, AL; two grandchildren, Lee Tramel of Dorsey and Shualena Robertson (William) of Fulton; four great-grandchildren, Kassi Tramel, Eli Drumm, Cody Robertson, and Audree Tramel; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, and one infant sister.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 16, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
