FLORENCE-Black History Month is a time where we, as Americans, remember the contributions of African American culture and history. The Florence-Lauderdale Public Library and Florence/Lauderdale Tourism and Vistor Center have teamed up to help The Shoals celebrate.
Lee Freeman, Director of the Florence/ Lauderdale Public Library, will conduct the ‘Up From Slavery’ trolley tour on Saturday, February 13, 2016. The trolley will depart from Florence/Lauderdale Tourism and Visitor Center in McFarland Park at 11 a.m. Please arrive 10 to 20 minutes early. The tour is approximately an hour and a half.
This will be an educational and entertaining tour that will include stops at historical African American churches, schools and local businesses.
General admission is $15 ; cost for Seniors and Students is $10; Small children who can sit in a lap ride free. Participants are encouraged to reserve a seat by calling 256-740-4141. All proceeds will go towards the Tennessee Valley Historical Society Scholarship Fund.
