NORTHWEST ALABAMA -We are still expecting some winter weather in North Alabama here is a statement from the US National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama:
[8:45am] We know folks are waking up wondering where 1) all the snow is & 2) whether this means we are out of the woods. [short answer to this is NO…details follow]
1) A little bit of warm air has held on overnight and is melting snow before it reaches the ground. Locations in higher terrain are reporting some icing problems but the majority of the TN Valley remains in good shape at this time.
2) The low pressure center driving this storm isn’t done with us yet. It will swing across the southeast today and draw colder air toward the TN Valley. Precip is still expected to change to snow THIS AFTERNOON and periods of moderate/heavy snow will be possible through the evening hours. Accumulations may be slightly lower than previously indicated, but the majority of the TN Valley should still see at least warning critera snow (> 2in).
So if you are heading out to work or running errands today, keep a close eye on the weather – we are not out of the woods yet. Once we start seeing precip change to snow, it will stay that way until precip ends tonight.
