… Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 6 PM this evening to

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow… which is in effect from 6 PM this
evening to noon CST Tuesday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in
effect.
* Timing and areas affected… snow will develop as early as this
evening… but will become more widespread after midnight. The
greatest chance of snowfall will be in north Alabama… with a lower
chance in southern middle Tennessee. Snow will either end or change
to rain by noon on Tuesday.
* Snow/sleet accumulations… snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches
south of the Tennessee River are expected… with a half inch or
less nearer the Tennessee border and in southern Tennessee.
* Impacts… roads will become snow covered and slushy..causing slick
and hazardous travel. Temperatures will warm above freezing on
Tuesday afternoon before falling below freezing again Tuesday
evening… making travel conditions more hazardous Tuesday night.
Precautionary/preparedness actions…
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will
cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow and slush covered
roads and possibly limited visibility.
SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT: as of 3:41 AM CST on February 10, 2014
… Another bout of winter weather is likely late Tuesday night and
Wednesday…
On the heels of one winter weather event… snow and sleet is expected
to move back into the area Tuesday night and last through much of
Wednesday. The greatest risk of moderate to possibly heavy accumulating
snowfall will be along and southeast of a Scottsboro to Cullman line
where amounts of 2 inches or more could fall. This will likely be a
wet snowfall… and given that temperatures will remain near or just
above freezing… the snowfall will become slushy on roadways causing
rather slick travel conditions. As temperatures fall below freezing
Wednesday evening… icy Road conditions could develop where snow has
fallen.
There remains significant uncertainty with this weather
system… including the various precipitation types that could occur.
At this time… snow and sleet appear to be the main weather hazards
posed by this system. However… freezing rain could also become a
hazard if the track of the system varies.
Pay attention to future updated statements and forecasts from the
National Weather Service as this winter weather situation develops.
