TUSCUMBIA-The Tennessee Valley Art Association is hosting its third annual Winter Art Market now through December 23 at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art. Featuring work from over 50 artists and artisans, the market offers a unique holiday shopping experience, with hundreds of one-of-a-kind pieces of art to choose from.
The artists in this year’s Winter Art Market are mostly local or regional, with a few hailing from as far as Colorado and Michigan. Visitors will find a huge variety of art pieces and handmade items, including pottery, jewelry, paintings, toys, clothing, wooden boxes and bowls, baskets, candles, and soaps. Prices range from $10 to over $3000, so everyone can leave with the perfect gift for a loved one or great new piece of art for their own home.
“The Winter Art Market is a wonderful way to support local artists and the community,” said Cynthia Holms Infanger, one of the artists offering work in the market. Through her home decor company Cynthia Jasmine Designs, she creates rope bowls, fabric plush toys, and other fiber items.
“You can find unique pieces in every price range and style. The setting at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art is light, cheerful, and inviting, which allows for a lovely experience,” says Infanger, who lives in Florence and is participating in the Winter Art Market for the second time.
The Winter Art Market is the perfect destination for people who want to spend their holiday shopping dollars responsibly.
75% of proceeds go directly to the individual artists and small businesses creating the artwork. 25% supports the Tennessee Valley Art Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
“Artists really love this event because it brings them sales and exposure, without as much work and stress as a traditional art festival. As an art association, we’re glad to be able to support artists in this way.” says Christi Britten, the Tennessee Valley Art Association’s executive director.
“And when you shop at the market, you also support the TVAA. Your purchases help us build our community and children’s theatre programs at The Ritz, bring more exciting art exhibitions to the museum, and offer more arts education through our new Tennessee Valley School of Arts.”
The Winter Art Market is open during the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art’s normal hours of Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m and Saturday 10 a.m to 5 p.m. It will be closed Nov. 23-25 for Thanksgiving but open on Nov. 26 for Small Business Saturday.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free for TVAA members. There will also be a free admission day on Saturday, Dec. 10 for the It’s a Dickens Christmas Y’all event in downtown Tuscumbia.
