Funeral Services for Mrs. Wilma Hyatt Miller, age 86 of Delta, will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at Good Hope Delta Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. David Porter and Rev. John Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Miller passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at her residence. She was born in Calhoun County, Alabama on February 19, 1935. She graduated from White Plains High School as Salutatorian of her senior class. She received her Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Jacksonville State University. Wilma met her husband, Jerry Pierson Miller, while attending Jacksonville State and they were married on her 20th birthday in 1955. They were married for 35 years until his passing from a farming accident in 1990. She was a lifelong elementary educator for 37 years and dearly loved her students. Wilma was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending her sons, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s activities. She was a huge University of Alabama Sports fan and enjoyed watching the Crimson Tide play football. Wilma faithfully attended Good Hope Delta Missionary Baptist Church for the last 66 years. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Inter Se Club, both of Lineville.
Mrs. Miller is survived by two sons: Gene Miller (Elaine) of Delta and Kirk Miller (Rachelle) of Hartselle; four grandchildren: Megan Miller Yates, Chase Pierson Miller (Mary Beth), Wyatt Pierson Miller, and Indie JoAnna Miller; four great-grandchildren: Miller, Macoy, Maddox, and Mackenzie; one sister-in-law, Wynelle Miller McGraw of Centre, and a large extended family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Pierson Miller; her parents, William Clyde Hyatt and Martha Murray Hyatt; and one sister, LaNelle Hyatt Cole.
Active Pallbearers will be Wyatt Pierson Miller, Bruce Rice, Dwight Rice, Butch Miller, Rusty Miller, Lee McGraw, Lynn McGraw, Roy Bennett, and Grant Nichols.
Honorary Pallbearers will be all of her former students.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Benefield Funeral Home from 5:30-8:00 P.M.
Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville is in charge of arrangements.
