Wilma Christine Sockwell, 84, passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014.

Public viewing will be today from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with the funeral following at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville, Alabama. Officiating will be Ricky Corbell. Burial will be at Vandiver Hollow Cemetery.

A loving wife, mother, and Nana, she never met a stranger. Her door was always open. Kind-hearted to the unfortunate, she fed the hungry. She was always giving, hardly ever taking. She cherished her family. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a member of her local bowling league. She was a fine example of a Christian woman. She volunteered her time to many things. One she loved was the Colbert Rescue Squad. She was a coach, wonderful cook, and the best mother anyone could ask for. She was the definition of love.

Her family would like to thank Florence Nursing Home staff and personnel and also Southern Care Hospice nurses that took wonderful care of her. We are forever grateful. She will be so deeply missed by many.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, Emmitt and Mary Collins, husband, Charles Eugene Sockwell, and daughters, Jean Gillespie and Kay Smith.

Wilma is survived by her son, Stacy Charles Sockwell and wife, Kristi; sister, Linda Willis; stepson, Wayne Sockwell and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Amanda King and husband, Zac, Danielle Green, Dustin Jackson and wife, Amanda, Tillman Sockwell, Regina Rickard, Kim Demascus, and Pam Thomas; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
