Willodean Gatlin It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Willodean Gatlin, of Athens, who peacefully left us on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on June 27th, 1933, in Athens, Willowdean was the daughter of Wilby Bee Moore and Flossie M. South Moore. Throughout her life, she graced the lives of many with her warmth and kindness.

Willodean is survived by her loving family, including daughters Patricia Diane Cheatham (Wendell), Brenda Morell (Morris), and Peggy Putman (James). Her sons Donnie Gatlin (Barbara), Jackson Gatlin (Lanette), and Phillip Gatlin (Wanda) also cherish her memory. She leaves behind a legacy of love with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.

Willodean is reunited in peace with those who preceded her in death, including her parents, her husband Jackson Cainey “J.C.” Gatlin, and grandson Kaleb Gatlin. She is also preceded by her siblings Jewel Coffman, Chester Moore, Emogene Barksdale, Edward Moore, William Moore, Billy Moore, and Lurine Knowles.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Thursday, January 8th, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. A celebration of Willodean’s life will follow during the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Bro. Donald Terry. She will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery, with pallbearers Jason Gatlin, Arlon Putman, Jamey Baldwin, Dustin Gatlin, Jacob Smith, and Rob Kiker honoring her.

Willodean Gatlin was a special lady, a true beacon of love and joy to all who knew her. Her passion for playing Rook was well-known and cherished by her family and friends. Her kindness and gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege to know and love her.
