Willie G. Oates departed this life Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Cypress Cove Care and Rehabilitation Center, Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
He was a dedicated member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Sheffield, Alabama and served faithfully on the usher board and in other church activities. He was a Sterling High School graduate. Mr. Oates was a United States Army Korean War veteran. He was honorably discharged having achieved the rank of corporal.
Mr. Oates is survived by one sister, Patricia Oates Jackson (John T), of Florence, Alabama; three brothers, E. Frank Oates (Gail), of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bruce C. Oates (Karen), Laurel Springs, New Jersey, and Oliver C. Oates (Mildred), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two sisters-in-law, Tracien Cobb Oates, Sheffield, Alabama, and Joyce Simmons Oates, Atco, New Jersey; two brothers-in-law, Edmond A. Mead, Huntsville, Alabama, and John T. Jackson, Florence, Alabama.
The service for Mr. Oates will be held on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at noon at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Sheffield, Alabama. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield, Alabama.
Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.
