William Thompson Pitts – Obituary

The funeral service for Reverend William Thompson Pitts, age 88 of Coleta Valley, will be on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Noah Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Church Cemetery.

Rev. Pitts passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Hartselle. Born and raised in Clay County, he graduated from Bibb Graves High School – Class of 1949. After serving in the U. S. Air Force, Rev. Pitts worked as a police officer in Sylacauga until he surrendered to the call to preach the Gospel. He attended Clarke Bible College in Newton, Mississippi and after graduating in 1955, pastored a number of churches in Mississippi and Alabama.

Rev. Pitts is survived by one daughter: Kathy Pitts Evans (Tony) of Hartselle; two granddaughters: Kasey Evans and McKenzie Evans Moore; five grandsons: Adam Pitts, Joseph Ray, Josh Pitts, Weston Evans, and Sky Evans; nine great-grandchildren: Emily and Halee Evans, Lucy and Sam Pitts, Lila, Cameron, Ridge, Harbor and Adelaide Evans; two brothers: Wesley Pitts of Coleta Valley, and Wayne Pitts of Ashland, plus a large extended family.

Rev. Pitts was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Berry Pitts and Nina Bell Foster Pitts; his wife of 69 years, Rosie Patterson Pitts; one son, Mark Pitts; three sisters, Catherine Horne, Sybil McWhorter, Patsy Pitts and one brother, Fred Pitts.

Pallbearers will be: Adam Pitts, Josh Pitts, Joseph Ray, Clay Hogan, Matt Hogan, Chris Ridley, Donny Patterson, and Bobby Patterson.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 12:30 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
