William Richard Imes, Sr., age 96, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Bailey Manor in Winchester, TN. He was a native of Athens, OH, a retired insurance salesman from Gane Brothers & Lane, and of the Methodist Faith. Mr. Imes owned his own book binding business, volunteered as church historian, and loved to travel. He was an avid golf player, played on the men’s softball league, loved playing pool with friends, and bowled for many years where he medaled in the National Senior Olympics. He also had an artistic side – painting and building models of boats and planes. Mr. Imes served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Baird and Claryce Bernadette Rardin Imes; his first wife, Hilda Bertha Keys Imes; his second wife, Doris Irene Chrysler Imes; one son, William Richard Imes, Jr.; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Imes; and one sister, Sue Ann Imes.
He is survived by one grandson, Jason Baird Matthews (Jennifer) of Lexington Park, MD; two step-daughters, Penny Sue Hughes (Stephen) of Lawrenceburg, TN and Paula Kay Byerly of Fayetteville, TN; one great-grandson, Jacob Connor Matthews of Iuka, MS; six step-grandchildren; and twelve step-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. A memorial service will be conducted at The Way Church, 110 Mill Street, Woodstock, GA at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 04, 2025. Inurnment will be held at Georgia National Cemetery on Friday, September 05, 2025 at 11:30 AM.
