William Marshall Gardner – Obituary

William-Gardner-1463565068William Marshall Gardner of Killen, Alabama passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016 at UAB Hospital after an extended illness.

Marshall leaves behind his loving wife, Marjorie, 3 step children, many cousins and other relatives and several close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” and Corrine Davis Gardner of Muscle Shoals, AL and his brother Donald “Don” Gardner of Virginia.

The majority of Marshall’s childhood was spent in Norfolk, Virginia where he graduated from Norview High School. Marshall later moved to Muscle Shoals, AL. He attended the University of North Alabama as a member of the ROTC program. Upon graduation from UNA with a degree in History, he was commissioned into the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. He served in the Army for 20 years as pilot and a National Security Officer.

Upon retirement from the Army, Marshall attended law school at Ohio Northern University located in Ada, Ohio. At certain times in his legal career, he was a member of the Hawaii Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association and the Alabama Bar Association.

Marshall will be missed by his friends and family. He loved to debate with his friends on any topic. He was an avid reader and he loved music.

The visitation and memorial service for Marshall will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church which is located at the corner of Cloyd Boulevard and Darby Drive in Florence. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with the service to begin at 2:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Marshall’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation.
