William Marion Moon, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on August 11, 2026, at the age of 71. He was born On January 21, 1955.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Sherrie Lynn Moon, as well as his parents, father William Moon, Sr. and Eleanor Woodard Moon. He is survived by his two children Amanda Marsili (Larry) and William Moon III (Melissa) and his beloved dogs Scooter and Diamond, as well as grandchildren Desmond Marsili and Miracle Grace Moon. Billy is also survived by his family in Utah to include his sister Sandy Johnston (Dave), and a number of nieces and nephews spanning a couple of generations.
While deeply saddened by the loss of “Billy”, as he was known to his friends and family, comfort is taken in the knowledge that he is now at peace and the absence of the strains of aging in this worldly setting, and that the reunification with his wife and the other two grandchildren who preceded him in death, Landon and Shyanne Moon is going to surely return the familiar smile to Billy’s face.
The X-Box 360 platform was Billy’s home away from home until his eyesight diminished his ability to continue to play. He would watch the reality programing on the Discovery Channel as well as NASCAR races with Sherrie, and always enjoyed the visits of his grandchildren. Billy never met a buffet that he didn’t enjoy and approached them as challenges more so than meals. A huge fan of peanut butter cookies and pecan pie, it often would take more than a couple of servings for Billy to decide whether they were to his liking.
The devastating heartbreak of the loss of his Sherrie nearly 2 years back, only makes the inevitable reunion of the couple that much more satisfying. The family invites friends and family to join in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 2pm to 4pm at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama. Similarly to his wife’s Celebration of Life service, Billy would want nobody troubling themselves to wear a suit or otherwise “dress for the occasion”, as the occasion will be the same casual setting that everyone knew Billy to live day-to-day in, as attendees recount and remember the man, and hopefully share some of best memories and funny stories that made Billy the character he was.
