William Lewis (Bill) Standridge

William Lewis (Bill) Standridge passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019, in his Decatur, Al hometown. He was born in Lawrence County near the start of the great depression, the first child to Elbert and Oleane Standridge and an older brother to Raymond Leon (Ray) and Melvin Howard (Mel) Standridge. Rheumatic fever kept him bedridden for almost two years as a teen, when aspirin and rest were the only treatment. Upon recovery, Bill graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1949 and then studied Accounting for a short while at Auburn University. He spent a few years in banking but worked substantially his entire career for the Spencer Companies in Huntsville, Al, retiring as Treasurer in 1994.

 

Bill is survived by his Beloved wife Ruth Owen Standridge and his youngest brother Mel (Patricia); three children- James Standridge, Dale Standridge (Sherry) and Alice Kelly (Maurice); five direct grandchildren- Caroline Garnett (David), Laura Kelly (Mark Mullican), Brian Kelly (Ashley) and Leah Boyd (Tyler); and three great grandchildren Luke (10) and Merrill (7) Garnett, Son and daughter of David and Caroline, and Wyatt Kelly, the daughter of Brian and Ashley due in February 2020.
