William Klemens Profile Photo William Klemens, age 93, of Severna Park, MD, passed away on January 12, 2024. He was born in Astoria, New York, to the late Ludwig and Mathilda Klemens. William’s past residences include Granville, NY; Glens Falls, NY; and Watertown, MA.

 

William put himself through college, taking night classes at City College of New York over a 10-year period. He was a chemical engineer who retired from the Department of the Navy in 1997, and his career resulted in numerous awards and U.S. patents. William was a man of exemplary character with a strong work ethic, and he was an excellent provider for his family, as well as a substantial contributor to numerous charities. He reached the rank of Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.

 

William enjoyed 60 years of marriage with Agnes until her passing in 2021. They enjoyed cruises and traveling together. As a younger man, he loved boating on Lake St. Catherine, fishing, target shooting, and gardening. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren partake of various sports. He was a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and taught Sunday School while in Granville. He participated in a poker club in the Bendale Community (1970s – 80s), and he was a member of the Edelweiss Club in Baltimore with his daughter, Monica, in the 1990s. He and Agnes were also members of various square dancing clubs over the years.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Agnes M. Klemens, and brother, Louis “Buddy” Klemens. William is survived by his son, Michael W. Klemens and wife Ruthann of Southport, NC; daughters Monica L. Garvey and husband Paul of Franklin, TN; and Jennifer L. Klemens and her husband Felix Lopez of Severna Park, MD; sister, Eleanor Horchler of Springfield, VA; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Klemens, Rebecca Klemens, and Alassane Diagne.

 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 29, at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park, MD. Father Jeremy Smith will serve as celebrant. William and his beloved wife, Agnes, will be interred together at a later date at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Disabled American Veterans.
