William James Mobbs (Bill), age 82, of Portland, TN went to his eternal home on September 16, 2024. He was born in Gasden, AL on September 11, 1942, to the late James Ray Mobbs and Freddie Love Ray Mobbs. Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Ray Mobbs and Robert Eugene Mobbs. Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lucretia Jo Waldrep Mobbs; two daughters, Lenore Poskevich (Zach), Lara Graham (Tim); two granddaughters, Reagan Poskevich and Sally Graham; Sister by marriage, Regina Mobbs; Nephew, Chas Mobbs (Tara); Great Niece, Ella Rae Mobbs. He was a follower of Christ and attended McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church in Portland, TN.
Bill loved his family fiercely and never failed to put them first throughout his entire life. He enjoyed telling stories of his boyhood days growing up on the river in Cedar Bluff, AL, roaming the forest, camping, and fishing. He earned an FCC license and worked as a chief radio engineer and disc jockey for many years. He retired from Bell South as a cable repairman and in his retirement he spent countless hours doing church mission work as a carpenter. He was a gifted public speaker, writer, thinker, and craftsman.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, Alabama. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
