William J. Millsap – Obituary

William J. Millsap, 92, of Huntsville, passed away Sunday. He was the loving husband of Ann S. Millsap, who passed away October 27, 2009. Mr. Millsap was a veteran of World War II, and a member of First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University), where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu and Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Before he and his family moved to Huntsville from Arlington, VA in December 1953, he was with the Communications Division of the Office of CNO from January 1949 to December 1953. During 1949-1951, he served as a Member of the Delegation of the United States of America to the Provisional Frequency Board of the International Telecommunications Union and an Adviser to the Delegation of the United States of America to the Extraordinary Administrative Radio Conference of the ITU in Geneva, Switzerland. He retired from the Army Missile Command after a career in Project Management of Air Defense Systems. These were NIKE HERCULES, MAULER and SAM-D/PATRIOT.

Survivors include his sons, William Jay Millsap of Pensacola, FL, and Robert Andrew Millsap of Murfreesboro, TN; grandsons, Andrew L. Millsap (Megan), and Alexander Lucas Millsap (Emily), both of Murfreesboro, TN; step-granddaughters, Laura Maketa of Wasilla, AK and Kim Paquetta of Ripley, TN; two great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, August 12 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow in the chapel. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
