William Garry Tallent, 76, died April 5, 2018 at Decatur-Morgan Hospital in Decatur. He was born on September 29, 1941 in Gadsden to William C. and Katherine Wilson Tallent.
Garry grew up in Gadsden and graduated from Etowah High School. After high school he joined the U.S. Army and served two years in Germany. Upon discharge in 1962 he moved to Decatur where he married Martina Norton. They were happily married for 55 years. Garry loved the outdoors and camping. He was the happiest while hunting or with a fishing pole in his hand.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. and Katherine Tallent and brother, Johny Wayne Tallent. He is survived by his spouse, Martina of Decatur; his daughter, Kim (Greg) Jones and son, Todd Tallent of Decatur; his sisters, Sandra (Richard) Decker of Foley and Teresa (Lyman) Lovejoy of Springville; brother, Jeff Tallent of Birmingham; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Grant Street Church of Christ, 240 Grant St. SE, Decatur, on April 21, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Richard Chandler officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service
