William Erskine “Erk” Payne, 89, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018.
He was survived by his son; William E. Payne, Jr. (Meredith); daughter Wyndy Anderson; grandchildren; Jamie Payne Dabbs (James), William Robert Payne, Mary Ray McFarlen (Alex), Isabella Payne, and Reece Anderson and 5 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Ann Payne of 63 years.
He was retired from the City of Huntsville as the Parks and Recreation Director, was instrumental in Babe Ruth Baseball all throughout the nation, was inducted in the Madison County Sports Hall of Fame and was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran.
Visitation will be Saturday from 12 Noon to 2:00 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home followed by a 2:30 p.m. Graveside Service at Maple Hill Cemetery with Pastor John Tanner of Cove United Methodist Church officiating
