William Charles "Charlie" Clem Jr.William Charles Clem, Jr., “Charlie”, 71, of Limestone County, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024. He was born December 31, 1952, in Athens, to Charles and Gloria (Hill) Clem.

He is preceded by his parents and is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Julia McCoy Clem; sister Nancy Clem; brother Robert Allen Clem; sons William Charles Clem, III (Cortney), of Memphis, TN and Stephen Nicholas Clem, of Huntsville; step-sons William Robert Cheatham “Robby” (Nikki), of Huntsville, and Thomas Seth Cheatham (Tae), of Honolulu, HI.

“Granddaddy” left behind a great legacy to his grandchildren: Austin Clem, Houston Clem, Mason Clem, Jackson Clem, Nathan Clem, Skylar Cheatham, Jade Cheatham, along with Makenzy Jackson, Chase Bledsoe, Austin Dupree, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Charlie attended the University of Alabama. He was the owner-operator of Clem Tire and Appliance in Athens for decades, and then joined the Athens Police Department at the age of 47, where he worked until his retirement as lieutenant at the age of 70.

He loved Alabama football, whitewater kayaking, boating on the Elk River, hiking in Bankhead forest, riding tractors on his 20 acres, and sharing his love of nature with his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 2:00pm – 3:45pm, on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, followed by the Athens Police Honor Guard Ceremony and Memorial Service at 4:00pm.
