William Carroll ‘Billy’ Henderson, Sr. – Obituary

William Carroll ‘Billy’ Henderson, Sr. passed away peacefully Friday. He is survived by his precious wife, Barbara Henderson; son, Maury Henderson; stepson, Ray Garner; stepdaughters, Phyllis Garner Brown and Christy Garner Wampler; sisters, Martha Jane Henderson Sharp and Jeanne Henderson Smith; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Maurice Henderson, brother, David Henderson, sister, Mary Adeline Henderson, and his son, William Carroll ‘Sonny’ Henderson, Jr.

Mr. Henderson was born and raised in Huntsville. He graduated from Butler High School in 1957, and was a member of the first marching band at Butler. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service, including serving in Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years. He graduated from Troy University with a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science. He was a member of West Huntsville Baptist Church. He loved studying family history, and was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Mr. Henderson was an avid Alabama fan!

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at West Huntsville Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2 at the church with the Rev. Scott Gossett officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
