William Byron Holdbrooks – Obituary

williamWilliam Byron Holdbrooks, 48 of Alabaster, formerly of Haleyville, entered into rest on June 12, 2016 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.

Byron was born on November 8, 1967 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He was a graduate of Haleyville High School in 1986 and University of Alabama in 1990. He was awarded All State and Addias All American Awards in high school. Byron played football for University of Alabama for 4 years. In 1990, during the Iron Bowl, the second play of the game he sacked Stan White and changed the momentum of the game which resulted in the win over Auburn. Byron’s senior year at University of Alabama they were rate #2 Defense in the nation. He was a member of the A club at University of Alabama. He enjoyed football, golf, talking to people, deer hunting, and bird hunting. Byron was full of life and always wanted people to make this moment a celebration of his life rather than mourn it. As Byron would say “Roll Tide Roll!”

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 11-2pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where services will be held 2:00 pm. Brother Jeff Burleson and Brother Bo Shedd will officiate. Burial will follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery.

He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Kristi Holdbrooks; sons, Dustin Ray Smalley, William Bodie Holdbrooks; daughters, Christen Ashley Holdbrooks Stevens, Kindal Monroe Holdbrooks, Katie Amanda Holdbrooks Stevens; two granddaughters; parents, Jerry Don Holdbrooks, Connie and Del Bates; sister, Nicole Whitlock; nieces, Cori Brook Whitlock and Camryn Ivie Whitlock.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Simmit and Aliene Haley; Clarence Holdbrooks, Charles and Vera Holdbrooks Putman.
