William “Bill” Thomas Welch was a caring dad, son, and friend who had the biggest heart for his family, friends, and animals. Bill passed away on August 2, 2023, at the age of 64 after a long, courageous battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, while surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living life to the fullest and continuing to help others. His battle through these recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Bill remained positive and stayed strong until the end.
He was born to Harry and Sara Welch on February 20th, 1959. Bill attended UA to play baseball and rugby and then became an all-star rugby player for the Huntsville Rugby Club. During his time playing rugby, he met some of his best friends and brothers who have remained close to him for the past 45 years. He enjoyed raising his two daughters, Maggi and Molly, and never hesitated to help them with school and sports. Dedicating his life so they could grow and have a beautiful, adventurous, and fulfilling life. He also made sure to remain close to his best friends and cherished fun and memorable times he had with them.
Bill loved watching the Alabama Football (Roll Tide!), being at the beach, fishing, running, and spending time with his friends and family. Bill donated over 50 gallons of blood to the Red Cross Organization to help others and many of those times included the long process of platelet donation.
Bill will be honored with a celebration of life on August 5, 2023. Visiting hours are from 1-2 pm and the service will begin at 2 pm at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Parkinson’s Dynamics (formerly known as Rock Steady Boxing). Funds can be sent to P.O. Box 12597, Huntsville, Al 35815, or can venmo @Maggi-Welch.
