William “Bill” Thomas Roberts Sr., 88, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, August 25, 2023. He was the widower of Bettie Lou Owen Roberts. They shared 46 years of marriage together.
Born in Tracy City, TN, Bill was the son of Dr. Tom Roberts and Mary Ellen Hembree Roberts. He was a Tennessee Tech University graduate with a degree in Physics. He worked as a NASA physicist in the Magnetospheric Physics Branch of Marshall Space Flight Center for 33 years.
As a Methodist, he enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with friends and family. Bill will be remembered for his dry humor, gentle soul, and forbearance of fools, especially his children when they were teenagers. Speaking of which, somehow, he is survived by his three children, Tom Roberts of Glendale, CA, Jane Slocum of Huntsville, AL, and Joe Roberts of Madison, AL, and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 28, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL. The funeral will follow in the chapel at 6:30. A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, at Tracy City Cemetery in Tracy City, TN.
