William “Bill” Oscar Vinson, 75, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, after a courageous fight against pneumonia and every effort by the wonderful people at Coliseum Hospital in Macon, Georgia. Born in Limestone County to Edward Hawkins Vinson and Jewel Jackson Vinson, he joined the Army at the age of 17 and was stationed in Detroit, Michigan, where he met his bride of 55 years, Ruth Ida Domke Vinson. They travelled to Germany, Texas, Alaska, New York, California, and eventually retired in Decatur, home to most of his family. He then proceeded to have a career in security and retired from The 3M Company. After calling Decatur home for over 30 years, he and his wife moved to Reynolds, Georgia, and loved this quiet town of loving people.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, great- grandfather, friend and co-worker. Because of his dedication to his family, work, and anything he attempted to do, he was respected and admired by all who had the pleasure of spending time with him.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Vinson; five children, Sheryl Huggins, Larry Vinson, Keith (Tracy) Vinson, Diana (Dennis) Rhea and Karen Vinson; one brother, John Vinson; two sisters, Jean (Bernard) Dawes and Betty Dawson; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services for the celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church of Reynolds on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 2 p.m. The family will meet friends tonight from 6 to 8 at McLeighton Funeral Home of Reynolds.
