MONTGOMERY-Effective Nov. 1, 2013, the Alabama Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program will resume issuance of three months of food benefits. Based on the recent shut down of the federal government, the program had gone to one-month issuance. Amanda Martin, Alabama WIC Program director, said, “We appreciate the support and patience of our participants and WIC vendors during this period of budget uncertainty.”
The program has an average monthly caseload of 139,000 women, infants and children who receive nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and vouchers for healthy and nutritious foods. Martin said, “The program is committed to serving our current and future participants.”
