SHEFFIELD – When we showed up at Peanutt and Charlene Montgomery’s business on Montgomery Avenue this morning, they had just learned that music legend George Jones had died. It was a difficult morning. These two had for years been the Country Music superstar’s closest companions and confidants.

When they saw Jones at a show in Mississippi last year it would be for the last time. Even though The Montgomery’s had been estranged from their friend for almost 20 years; a result of Jones’ hard battles with drugs and alcohol, and some people in the singer’s life who kept him away from his past relationships, the news of his passing was difficult for them to take.
They had been with Jones through thick and thin; had been there for him when he was completely broke; and supported him during some of the most challenging times in the country music legend’s life.
We asked a few questions about their life with George Jones. This is some of what they had to say:
