Wheeler Lake Gears Up for the Return of Mississippi River Monsters Bama Blues Catfish Tournament

DECATUR-One of the nation’s premier catfish tournament events is set to make its comeback to the River City this January, drawing top catfish anglers from across the country. The Mississippi River Monsters Bama Blues will kick off on Jan. 3rd, 2024, on Wheeler Lake, hosting a series of activities leading up to the final tournament day on the 6th.

The Mississippi River Monsters Bama Blues event offers anglers a diverse range of activities throughout each day. On Jan. 3 and Jan. 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., anglers participating in the pre-fishing for the tournament will compete for the largest fish, vying for a chance to win substantial cash and prizes, with a minimum daily guarantee of $500.

Registration for the tournament is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, taking place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ingalls Harbor Pavilion. Following registration, the Monster Big Bash event kicks off at 6:00 p.m., featuring activities, a cash bar, and the presentation of prizes from the pre-fishing activities.

Tournament hours for the Mississippi River Monsters Bama Blues on Wheeler Lake are from 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6. Teams are permitted to launch from Ingalls Harbor at 6 a.m. on the morning of the tournament and must return and check in at the weigh-in location no later than 5:00 p.m. The weigh-in will commence at 4:30 p.m. at Ingalls Harbor and will be broadcast live on Facebook this year. Winners will be announced and awarded prizes and honors directly after the weigh-in.

This catch-and-release tournament is capped at 100 teams, with prizes awarded to the top 10 places, including a substantial $15,000 cash prize for the first-place winner, and prizes for the biggest fish.
