ROGERSVILLE-The Wheeler Dam bridge is scheduled to be fully closed from Friday, March 20 at 7:00pm through Monday, March 23 at 5:00am as part of TVA’s ongoing refurbishment that started in October 2025. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the closure will shift to the following weekend.

This is a temporary full closure, and no traffic will be allowed across the bridge. During the closure, all passenger vehicles and trucks will be required to use the following detour routes:

  • Lawrence County side: Alabama State Route 20 (Alt US-72)
  • Lauderdale County side: Highway 72, crossing at the Singing River Bridge in Florence

After the temporary full closure, the bridge will return to single-lane traffic for passenger vehicles only until the project wraps up later this spring. Truck detours will remain the same.

A new epoxy overlay and joints are being installed during this improvement project. Bridge joints are a component of the bridge designed to allow expansion and contraction, which helps prevent damage from temperature changes.
