Recently while out and about we had the occasion to stop at the Aldi’s Grocery Store on the corner of Mall Dr. and Cox Creek Parkway.  As we turned into the parking lot, we saw the old unoccupied building located in McLendon Plaza, 2901 Mall Dr., being dismantled.  After  Aldi’s, we stopped and took several pictures of the remains of the old McLendon & Sons Optical Building.

After returning back to the office, we placed a call to Greg Pounders, of Pounders & Associates Commercial Real Estate whose sign was displayed by the road side.  In our conversation with Greg, he said there were no immediate plans for the site, but there were some draft plans that he had in mind.  Greg said, “At this time I just wanted to get the old building out of the way so the potential of this prime commercial site could shine.  The old building just would not have been cost effective to remodel.”

So, what is next?  The answer is according to Greg “Whatever a potential business that would like to locate on the site wants.”  And, as anyone in The Shoals can tell you, if it can be built, Greg can build it.
