Lori Putnam: Far From Home May 23 – June 20, 2023
This exhibition includes select paintings from the larger body of work Lori Putnam: Far From Home. Exhibition hours: Tuesday-Friday 9 am – 5 pm, Saturday 10 am -5 pm. Museum admission: $5 for adults, $3 for students, free for TVAA members.
Student Exhibition with NW-SCC May 23 – June 30, 2023
Students from Northwest-Shoals Community College will have paintings and drawings on display in this exhibition. The student artists included in the show are Coby Fuller, Nayely Mojica, Daniel Galvez, Ismael Lopez, Emma Cole, Martha Lee and Amanda Jacobs.
Reception with the Artists: Friday, May 26, 2-4 pm.
PORTALS: Collaborative Member Artist Exhibition May 23 – June 30, 2023
PORTALS is an interactive, organically evolving installation at Tennessee Valley Museum of Art. Doors can represent entrances, beginnings, transitions, gateways, thresholds, boundaries, or endings. Tennessee Valley Art Association member artists are invited to interpret these neutral doors (portals) as works of art. Artists can bring materials into the museum and paint, puncture, staple, découpage, etc. to their hearts’ content. The exhibition will evolve through June 30. Each door will be auctioned off at the annual artist members exhibition, ARTWORKS, at the end of Summer.
Helen Keller Art Show of Alabama June 2 – 30, 2023
The Helen Keller Art Show of Alabama is an annual traveling juried art show. The show is open to students from throughout the state who have visual impairments, blindness, and or deaf blindness. The artists are of various age attending public, private, residential, and home schools. The show provides artists an opportunity to showcase their special talents and abilities.Children who participate in the show use various media to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Art is included in the students’ academic curriculum in areas such as the development of communication skills, utilizing visual and tactical abilities, math, science, reading, and leisure time activities. The artwork is unique with emphasis on creativity, color, and tactile media. Sponsored in part by the Shelby County Arts Council, The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry Vision Science Research Center, Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, Purchase Award Individuals and Agencies, and private donations.
The Miracle Worker June 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24 & July 7, 8, 14, 15, 2023
Performances are on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm (gates open at 7 pm). Performed at the outdoor theater on the grounds of the historic Helen Keller Birthplace, this award-winning play recalls the childhood of the deaf-blind child, who became known as “America’s First Lady of Courage”, and her gifted teacher, Anne Sullivan. The outdoor drama, now in its 62nd season, is the longest consecutively running drama in the state. Reserved seats are $15, and General Admission is $10.

Muscle Shoals Street Rod Festival June 3, 2023
This annual festival features one of Alabama’s largest antique and street rod car shows. Over 300 gleaming street rods and vintage classics dating through 1993 will be on display in beautiful Spring Park in Tuscumbia. Come and join us on the first Saturday in June. RITZ Season Cocktail Party for TVAA Members June 3, 2023
This event is FREE for Circle Level members (Scholar’s Circle and above). Members at the Individual and Family/Friend level are also welcome, with a $10 admission at the door. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails as we announce the upcoming theatre season and open Early Bird Season Tickets to our VIPs. Season tickets for the party will be $60 (public tickets will be $75). Plus, enjoy preview performances by some of our Into the Woods cast members and meet the directors of this season’s production! Fantasy fairytale attire is optional. All TVAA members will be listed in the upcoming Ritz Theatre Season Playbill, so be sure to renew by June 3!
22nd Annual African Heritage Festival June 3 – 4, 2023
Explore African art, fashion, culture, crafts, and food at the annual African Heritage Festival. This cultural event is always held on the first weekend in June. It features traditional drumming and dance demonstrations, live music with rhythm & blues, gospel choirs, folk storytelling, and activities for the children. We Rocked the World: Muscle Shoals Music Concert June 17, 2023
Join the Colbert County Tourism & Convention Bureau and the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area for an extraordinary concert that pays tribute to the rich musical heritage of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This event, held at the Ritz Theatre in Sheffield, will start at 7 pm and promises an unforgettable celebration of the timeless music that originated from Muscle Shoals. Featuring the incredible talent of T. Graham Brown, Angela Hacker & James LeBlanc, and Billy Lawson & Wishbone, this concert is not to be missed. Helen Keller Festival June 23 – 26, 2023
This popular festival pays tribute to America’s “First Lady of Courage” with four days of activities: parade, fine art & crafts show, food vendors, art exhibits, Keller Kids, staged musical entertainment, history programs, tours, and two performances of The Miracle Worker Play. This is an STS* Top 20 and ABA* Top 100 event. This annual festival is held on the 4th weekend in June (Thurs-Sun) in beautiful downtown Tuscumbia & Spring Park. Art of the Dish June 22 – 24, 2023
Join us at Belle Mont for Art of the Dish! The exhibit features antique and vintage china on display throughout the mansion on Friday and Saturday. Inaugural Team Roping Benefiting RMHC of Alabama June 24 – 25, 2023
Saddle up and show off your roping skills to help families served by RMHC of Alabama! The inaugural Team Roping for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama will be held Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25, 2023, in Tuscumbia. Registration opens at 8 a.m. each day at the Longhorn R Arena, and roping begins at 9 a.m. The organizers of the event, the Austin family, have a personal connection to the RMHC of Alabama mission. ArtWorks Member Exhibition June 29 – August 18, 2023
ArtWorks is the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art’s annual show featuring work by members of the Tennessee Valley Art Association. This large and diverse exhibition showcases the extraordinary skill of artists across the Tennessee Valley and surrounding regions. Submission guidelines and dates will be announced in June.
