THE SHOALS-September is slated to be a jam-packed month for events, festivals and just plain fun in the Shoals. The Colbert County Tourism has put together a calendar of just some of the things to keep your weekends full of fun:

August 23-September 30, 2022 – Examination: Robert Rausch, TVMA, 511 N Water St, Tuscumbia. New exhibit by Robert Rausch including “photographs (that) are not self-portraits but a series of portrait-like images of myself in the guise of created characters, not narrative fragments. They are straightforward images using myself as an archetype…” Reception: September 22, 6 pm. Info: www.tennesseevalleyarts.org   

August 23- September 28, 2022 – A Retrospective: Richard Smith, TVMA, 511 N Water St, Tuscumbia. Works of Richard Smith are on display at TVMA. See examples of his cartoons, landscapes, and  popular “cloud paintings.”  An auction of his selected works will be held by his family at the Ritz    Studio on Friday, September 30 at 6pm. September 9-10, 2022 Oka Kapassa: Return to Cold Water American Indian Festival, Spring Park, Tuscumbia.  Native American Culture is showcased in storytelling, dancing, music, art and crafts and a torch-lighting ceremony.  Over a dozen American Indian tribes return to their southeastern    homeland. Friday is “School Day” from 8am – 2:30pm (Limited parking in Spring Park on Friday due to buses & groups.) Saturday is open to the public from 9am – 6pm. Admission is Free. September 10, 2022 – The Walk of Life, Tuscumbia Landing, 141 Blackwell Dr, Sheffield. The public is invited to participate in the “Walk of Life, the Return.” The 3-mile walk retraces the original Trail of Tears route and honors the ancestors that once walked to the West. The Walk, beginning at

Tuscumbia Landing, will take an hour depending on stops. It will end at the Willie Green Community

Center in Tuscumbia with transportation to your car provided afterwards. Information: Annie Perry 256-415-0700

September 12-17, 2022 – North Alabama State Fair, Fairgrounds, 65 Sportsplex Dr, Muscle Shoals. The

2022 Fair will be the 88th annual event with ag shows, entertainment, rides on the Midway! Free Parking. Gate Admission: $8 (Ages 7&up), (Ages 6&below) Free. Armbands (Does not include        admission) Monday – Thursday $30 Friday – Saturday $35, Combo Prices $30* (includes gate admission and armband; good for any one day) *online, Senior Citizen Day Monday 12, 2022.

September 15, 2022 – Super Funnies! Ritz Studio, 111 W 3rd St, Sheffield. Shoals improv group The Wickets return with another show at The Ritz Studio! Tickets are $10 at the door. Family Friendly, plus concessions are available (including brews for the adults). Come start your weekend off right with a belly full of laughs! Show is 7:30-9pm. www.tennesseevalleyarts.org

September 15, 2022 – Muscle Shoals Music: Songwriters in the Round, Champy’s, 120 E 2nd St, Muscle Shoals. Monthly music event on third Thursday each month. September will feature Angela Hacker & James LeBlanc with host Billy Lawson. Taylor Grace will open the night. Hear the music and stories from the original artists. Free event is 7-9pm. September 17, 2022 – Mark Collie in Concert, Ritz Theatre, 111 W Third St, Sheffield. Join us at the Ritz Theatre for this special live performance and recording, headlined by Mark Collie. He will be joined by Billy Lawson & Wishbone along with more special guests. Show begins at 7pm. September 17, 2022 – 29th Annual Trail of Tears, hosted by AL-TN Trail of Tears Corridor Association, Inc. Ride the official Trail of Tears Route, from Ross’s Landing in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the official start in Bridgeport, Alabama. The route follows Hwy 72 westbound to its final stop in Waterloo. Free 3-day American Indian Festival in Waterloo begins Friday afternoon. Vendors, food, arts & crafts, and free live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. September 23, 2022 – Grease Movie Screening, Ritz Theatre, 111 W 3rd St, Sheffield. Come see your favorite 1970s film musical set in the 1950s on the big screen in our historic theatre.1950s dress is     encouraged (but not required–feel free to come as you are!) October 1-2, 2022 – Shoals Fest, McFarland Park, 200 James M. Spain Dr, Florence. Saturday lineup:  Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Brittney Spencer, In the Round: Jason Isbell, John Paul White, & Chris Tompkins, Wanda Band, and Steve Trash. Sunday lineup: Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Drivin N Cryin, Amanda Shires, John Moreland, Billy Allen + The Pollies, and Steve Trash. General admission & VIP packages are available. Rain or Shine – Lineup is subject to change.
