COLBERT COUNTY-Colbert County Tourism is thrilled to share with you the August calendar of events! Attached, you’ll find a diverse lineup of activities that showcase the very best our Colbert County has to offer.

July 22 – August 12, 2023 – Artworks Member Exhibition, Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 North Water Street, Tuscumbia. ArtWorks is the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art’s annual show featuring work by members of the Tennessee Valley Art Association. This large and diverse exhibition showcases the extraordinary skill of artists across the Tennessee Valley and surrounding regions.

Museum hours: Tuesday-Friday 9am-5pm; Saturday, 10 am-5 pm. Museum admission: $5 for adults, $3 for students, free for TVAA members. Information: 256-383-0533 or tennesseevalleyarts.org.


August 3, 4, & 5, 2023 – Advanced Oil Portrait Painting Workshop with Martha Carpenter, Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 North Water Street, Tuscumbia. Using a live model, Martha Carpenter will begin a 3-day workshop with a brief demonstration involving canvas preparation, materials usage, color mixture, and a basic layout and value description of the bust portrait. A second demonstration will introduce general applications using the portrait palette and employing the Alla Prima technique. A third demonstration explains refinement, description of detail, and other final steps in completing the portrait. Participants will receive individualized instruction and critique throughout the workshop. ($415 with TVAA membership at the Scholar’s Circle level or above). August 6, 2023 – RMP 2023 Jump Fest, The Rescue Me Project Mega Center, 1300 S.W. Eighth St, Sheffield. The outdoor event will be 1 – 6 pm. Aug. 5 at the Rescue Me Project Mega Center, 1300 S.W. August 5, 2023 – Handy in the Bottoms After Party, 1302 Southeast 20th Street at Atlanta Avenue. Sheffield. Eric Kirkman Combo and other performers, Free event starts at 4 pm. Food available for purchase. Rain or shine!


August 5, 2023 – Taste of the Shoals, Montgomery Avenue, Sheffield. Stroll downtown Montgomery Avenue in Sheffield and sample the food offerings from some of the best chefs around town.  When you’re looking for something tastier to eat, come to the Center of the Shoals!


August 11 – 12, 2023 – Second Saturdays in Downtown Tuscumbia, Join us for an electrifying weekend in downtown Tuscumbia! Embrace creativity and artistry on Friday with the Creators’ Co-op and Street Party featuring remarkable local crafts and the soulful sounds of the Midnighters. On Saturday, experience a delightful shopping spree with diverse vendors, offering unique handmade treasures and delectable treats. August 12, 2023 – Classic Seger: Celebration in the Shoals, The Ritz Theatre, 111 Third Street, Sheffield. Thrilling audiences across North America, Classic Seger brings the energy, excitement, and raw power of a vintage Bob Seger concert to the stage, leaving fans singing, dancing, and screaming for more! Classic Seger is a world-class tribute act, performing masterful renditions of Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band’s greatest hits featuring songs, such as “Night Moves,” “Turn the Page,” “Against the Wind,” “Old Time Rock & Roll,” and many more all-time favorites. August 12, 2023 – The Palace After Dark Presents: 18 & Under Dance Party, The Palace, 100 S Main St, Tuscumbia. Join our friends at The Palace for their third dance party of the summer! Admission is free. Information: 256-248-4550


August 19, 2023 – Yesterday: A Tribute to the Beatles, The Ritz Theatre, 111 Third Street, Sheffield. Performing the Beatles since 2001, Yesterday: A Tribute to The Beatles, founded by Don Bellezzo, tours not only in the U.S. but internationally. With seven tours of Japan, and dozens more to Canada, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Bahamas, and United States military bases throughout the World, these entertainers have performed on five continents. Yesterday was endorsed by Sir Paul McCartney himself! Yesterday was featured in Rolling Stone and on NBC, CBS, ABC, and more. The resident Beatles Show Band for “Legends in Concert,” the world’s premier and longest-running tribute show, Yesterday performs in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Branson, Missouri. 7:30 PM. August 19, 2023 – The Village School Foundation Volunteer Day, The Village School Foundation, 200 Chickamauga St, Sheffield. Join us with Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area for our next volunteer event! We’ll be cleaning and organizing various sections of the interior and preparing for the next phases of restoration. This may include cleaning, scraping, and painting; they’ll provide supplies and direction, no experience necessary. Information: thevillageschoolfoundation@gmail.com.


August 22 – September 30, 2023 – Borderline: Chicano Voices Speak (Exhibition and Events Series), Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 North Water Street, Tuscumbia. Chicano Voices Speak is a carefully curated exhibition created by the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art over the past year. It offers viewers the opportunity to consider the cultural, social and political intersections of the United States and Mexico, the establishment and maintenance of cultural identity and  the physical and social borders that exist between them. The artists invited to participate are from across the United States and identify as Chicano/x, Hispanic, Latino/x or work with the subject of immigration and culture. The artists include: Juan Fuentes, Carlos Barberena, Celeste De Luna, Diego Marcial Rios, Eugene Rodriguez, Fernando marti, Frank Estrada, Raoul Deal and Favianna Rodriguez.Information: 256-383-0533 or tennesseevalleyarts.org.


August 24, 25, 26, & 27 – The Savannah Sipping Society, Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 North Water Street, Tuscumbia. In this delightful, laugh-a-minute comedy, four unique Southern women, all needing to escape the sameness of their day-to-day routines, are drawn together by Fate— and an impromptu happy hour. They decide it’s high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they’ve lost through the years. Together, they discover lasting friendships and a renewed determination to live in the moment—and most importantly, realize it’s never too late to make new old friends.
