ArtWorks is the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art’s annual show featuring work by members of the Tennessee Valley Art Association. This large and diverse exhibition showcases the extraordinary skill of artists across the Tennessee Valley and surrounding regions.

August 3, 4, & 5, 2023 – Advanced Oil Portrait Painting Workshop with Martha Carpenter, Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 North Water Street, Tuscumbia. Using a live model, Martha Carpenter will begin a 3-day workshop with a brief demonstration involving canvas preparation, materials usage, color mixture, and a basic layout and value description of the bust portrait. A second demonstration will introduce general applications using the portrait palette and employing the Alla Prima technique. A third demonstration explains refinement, description of detail, and other final steps in completing the portrait. Participants will receive individualized instruction and critique throughout the workshop. ($415 with TVAA membership at the Scholar’s Circle level or above). Chicano Voices Speak is a carefully curated exhibition created by the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art over the past year. It offers viewers the opportunity to consider the cultural, social and political intersections of the United States and Mexico, the establishment and maintenance of cultural identity and the physical and social borders that exist between them. The artists invited to participate are from across the United States and identify as Chicano/x, Hispanic, Latino/x or work with the subject of immigration and culture.
