Wendy Dee Hicks, 55, passed away Friday. Wendy was born and raised in Huntsville and graduated from Grissom High School. She graduated with honors from UNA with bachelor’s degrees in social work and kinesiology. She worked for the University of Florida running a 4H Camp, and at Colorado State University as the director of the 4H program in Gunnison County.
Wendy returned to Huntsville to be close to her family and race cars at the Huntsville Motor Speedway. She went on to race for the NASCAR Goody’s dash series. After retiring from racing, she joined her dad at their family car shop.
Survivors include her parents, Ann and Cecil Hicks; sister, Kara Brown (Jerry); brother-in-law, Mike Propst; nieces, Leslie McDaniel (Michael), and Kelsy Kinny (Michael); nephews, Jay Propst (Kathryn), and Evan Brown; great nieces, Haley McDaniel, Charlotte McDaniel, and Cecila Kinney. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lori Lee, and grandparents, Cecil and Lorene Hicks and James and Sue Hill.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Boys Town Village, or a charity of your choice.
