Wendell Phillips, 82, of Athens, AL, passed away on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024. He was born on August 3rd, 1941, in Lauderdale County, AL, to Reeder and Osie (Ezell) Phillips.
He is survived by his wife Abbie Phillips; sister Sherry Comer; daughter Serena Owsley (Charles); son Kendell Phillips (Bonita); grandchildren Allison Patterson (Heath), Rachel Laxson (Jared), Brooke Pool (Taylor), Klaire Moore (Adam), Will Phillips (Mallory), and Jonathan Owsley; great-grandchildren Hayes, Wells, and Brooks Patterson, Mary Gail and Madeline Laxson, Emerson and Addie Pool, Kendell Rae and Ty Moore, and Alaina Klaire Phillips.
The funeral for Mr. Phillips will be Saturday, February 24th, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, with Bill Irby, Jameson Steward, and Jonathan Owsley officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, February 24th, from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m., at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Will Phillips, Jonathan Owsley, Heath Patterson, Jared Laxson, Taylor Pool, and Adam Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Green, Corey Green, and Brent Green. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Phillips was a member of Hobbs St. Church of Christ. He retired after twenty-five years at General Motors. He was an avid golfer, and he supported all his grandchildren in youth sports. He loved Alabama football and spending time with his great-grandchildren.
