Wayne Vickery – Obituary

Wayne Vickery, 80, of Muscle Shoals died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012.
His visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday evening at Colbert Memorial Chapel in Tuscumbia. His funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Bro. Grant Coldwell will be officiating.
Mr. Vickery is survived by two sons, Terry Vickery and Barry Wayne Vickery (Sherri); one grandson, Derrick Wayne Vickery; sisters, Genell McDonald, Tommie Lou Bates, Alapha Wiginton and Marvaline Young; and numberous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lois Vickery; parents, Tural and Linda Vickery; sisters, Mozell Price, Clara Young, Jewell Burleson and Wilma Adams; brothers, Bobby, Dorson and Ray Vickery.
Serving as pallbearers will be local law enforcement and friends.
Mr. Vickery was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police and was a member of Tri-Cities Church of Christ. After serving his country in the Army, he came home and served his local community as a police officer and deputy for around 24 years and was selected the police officer of the year in 1970. He was the owner of Vickery Chevron for 13 years and also worked at the Tuscumbia City School system for around 11 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like for friends and family to make a donation online to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the American Lung Association .
The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice, especially, Tracy Sparks, Kim Gaisser, Steven Reed and Marketa Luman. And also special thanks to Gentiva Home Health, especially Lori Mansell and Katrina Aday; his caregivers, Sue Dodd, Elizabeth Tapp, Ken Riley and Gieselle Casiano; two special relatives, Ethel Mason and Margie Phillips.
