Wayne Stevenson West, 75, departed this life on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022 after a 1 ½ year battle with cancer. Wayne was born on June 6, 1947 in Red Bay, Ala. to the late Lonnie J. West and Airdale Bolton West. The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio when Wayne was young to work in the Ford Motor Plant there. He graduated from West Tech High School in Cleveland, Ohio and attended college there. On Nov. 21, 1978, in the presence of 800 people, he married Sharon Brutcher in a big “up North” wedding. At his death, they were married 52 years. He and Sharon made Mantachie their home in l981. He worked 27 years at Krueger International in Tupelo and 12 years in the electrical department at Home Depot before retiring. Wayne enjoyed playing a mean hand of Poker, watching Jeopardy, loved good food and eating and the fellowship associated with gatherings, playing his guitar but most importantly, Paw Pa enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 6 PM Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2022 in the Sadie M. Holland Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Bro. Derek Jones officiating. Private burial will be at a future date at Stephens Cemetery near Mantachie. Visitation will be from 4PM-6PM today (Tue 1/3/23) at the funeral home. Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Brutcher of Mantachie; his son, Steven West and wife, Jo Ann of Mantachie; 3 grandchildren, Kyle West, Brantley (Bobblehead) West and Meghan Hughes; his nieces and nephews, Sharon Smothers, Randy Bolton, Ronnie Bolton and Kimberly Smoot’ a brother in law, Robert Brutcher (Lois) of Cleveland, Ohio and all their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Edith, Judy and Marilyn and 2 brothers, James and Harold and his mother in law, Fran Brutcher, whom he liked for a multitude of reasons especially her cooking.
