Wayne Joseph Bordelon Sr. was called home to Our Lord on July 25, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on December 22, 1934, and grew up in Bordelonville, LA where he helped his dad raise cattle and made the occasional parts run with his mom to support the family auto service business. He attended Bordelonville High School from first grade through twelfth grade, graduating in 1953. He then attended Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1957.
Wayne married Ruth Ann Bordelon of Bordelonville while at LSU, where they lived in married student housing and enjoyed attending the home LSU football games. After graduating from LSU, he moved to Thibodaux, LA to start his career with the Department of Agriculture’s Soil Conservation Service. That same year (1957), he moved to Franklin, LA where his three children were born and the family lived for fifteen years. In 1973 he was promoted to Lafourche Parish agent, and the family moved back to Thibodaux, LA. As a conservationist, he helped Louisiana farmers and landowners throughout St. Mary Parish (Franklin, LA) and Lafourche Parish (Thibodaux, LA) with irrigation and flood control projects. Also, as part of his job, he spent three months in Haiti using his expertise to help farmers there. He retired in 1995 after 38 years of government service. He moved to Madison, AL in November 2024 to be closer to his family and was a resident of Madison Manor at the time of his death.
Wayne’s early hobbies included raising cattle and traveling. The family enjoyed weeks-long camping vacations around the country including Yosemite National Park, Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon, and the Smoky Mountains to mention a few. Later he became an avid hunter and fisherman. Bass fishing, speckled trout/redfishing, and duck and deer hunting were his favorites, but he also enjoyed shrimping, alligator hunting and frogging (by hand). With the help of three of his best friends, he constructed a houseboat (“The Camp”) to complete his dream of being able to wake up close to his best duck hunting and bass fishing spots. Wayne also enjoyed LSU football, cooking Cajun dishes, traveling, and Louisiana’s social events, including Mardi Gras and the Thibodaux Firemen’s Fair.
He was a life-long Catholic and recently attended St. John’s in Madison. He was a member of the Thibodaux Kiwanis Club regularly volunteering his time for various fundraisers. In his later years, he loved neighborhood parties and trips to the gym to exercise (his social skills). To say Wayne had never met a stranger would be an understatement; he loved people and formed many close friendships with co-workers, hunting/fishing partners, neighbors, and gym buddies.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Sanville Joseph Bordelon and Ethel Juneau Bordelon, his sister, Jean Bordelon Guillory, his grandson, Justin Talbot, and his former spouse, Ruth Ann Bordelon.
Wayne is survived by his three children, Craig Bordelon of Piscataway, NJ, Kim Talbot (Robbie) of Franklin, TN, and Wayne Bordelon Jr. (Maria) of Madison, AL; grandchildren, Ryan Talbot, Emilie Cantu (Matt), Laura Vaughn (Tom), Bridget Crain (Brandon), and Gregory Bordelon (Maddi); and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Madison, AL with visitation preceding at 10 a.m. A burial service in Bordelonville, LA will be held at a later date.
