walter-neustadter-obituaryMSgt (ret) Walter Scott Neustadter, 70, of Union Grove died Sept. 1, 2014, at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice facility in Albertville, AL.
Scotty, as he was known, was born Dec. 30, 1943 in New York City to Christine Tillotson and Walter Scott Neustadter, both now deceased. He graduated from Pelham High School in Pelham, New York, received his Bachelors degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha and Master of Science in Operations Management from University of Arkansas, Little Rock. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and a Certified Professional Logistician.
His positions during 20 years in the US Air Force included serving as HQ Pacific Air Force Functional Manager for Aircrew Training Devices. Following retirement he spent 20 years with the Boeing Company working on logistics projects on the Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle, the International Space Station, and the Ares I Upper Stage rocket.
Scotty has been a resident of Cherokee Ridge since 2006. He was active with the American Radio Relay League (ham radio license W4WW), serving as past chairman of the Hamfest in Huntsville. His latest activity was single action cowboy shooting, where his SASS alias was Whiskey Wildman.
He is survived by his wife Diane Kurek Neustadter, his sons Matthew Neustadter (Christina Davis) and Thad Gerrell (Marella), his sister Barbara Neustadter (Stephen Klink), and his mother-in-law Marie Kurek.
Visitation will be at Spry Funeral Home, 2411 Memorial Parkway NW, Huntsville; at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 with a memorial service with full military honors following at 7 p.m. Internment will be later at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Marshall County, especially the staff of Shepherd’s Cove. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to them at 408 Martling Road, Albertville AL 35951.
