Walter Neil Masters, age 90, of Haleyville, AL. passed away peacefully at Hendrix Health Care on Tuesday January 3, 2023. He was born June 10, 1932 in Alexandria City, AL. Neil and his family moved to Haleyville, AL in the 1940’s. He graduated from Haleyville High School in 1949. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Haleyville, where he served as a deacon for 53 years.
Following graduation, he served in the 107th Transportation Co. in Korea for 2 years, where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and several Medals and Ribbons. The he served the next 33 years with Haleyville National Guard Unit, where he retired as Lt. Colonel.
Upon returning from Korea, Neil married his longtime high school sweetheart Bobbie Albright Masters in June 1953.
Graveside Service will be held on Saturday January 7, 2023 at 3:00PM in Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville, AL. , with Dr. Nathan Carroll officiating
Pallbearers, David Albright, Dale Albright, Dr. Mike Moore, Barry Wood, Mike Johnson, Mark Johnson, Jesus Blanco, Mickey Holdbrooks, David Miller, Dr. Adam Cox and Ken Sunseri.
Neil is survived by his sister, Betty Johnson of Tallassee, Al.; his children, Randy (Beverly) Masters of Atlanta, Ga. and Mary Lou Masters of Haleyville, AL.; grandchildren, Lindsay (Jeff) Peterson,, Lauren (Eric) Easley, all of Atlanta, Ga. and Krista (Charles) Bergman of Fort Mill, SC.; great grandchildren, Brooks and Neiley Peterson, Margot and Fletcher Easley, Eldon and Olivia Bergman, and host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Bobbie Albright Masters, parents, Walter Vernon and Elizabeth Masters, Mary Shawl her husband Bill.
