Word has been received of the death of former Florence, Alabama resident, Walter Louis Smothers, 85, of Lawton, Oklahoma.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Smothers passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Walter was born on Dec. 11, 1928, in Memphis, Tennessee to Walter Brownlow and Loraine (Forester) Smothers. He worked for Ford Motor Company as an inspector for aluminum die casts until his retirement in 1983. He has been in Lawton since May with his son, Richard Smothers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing on the Tennessee River.
Survivors include his two sons, Richard Smother and his wife, Nilda, of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Michael “Shawn Longfeather” Smothers, of Arizona; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Smothers was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Billie Ditto, a granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren.
