Walter James ZimmermanWalter James Zimmerman, age 94, of Winchester passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at Southern Tennessee Regional Hospital in Winchester. He was born September 12, 1926, in Winchester to the late John Henry Zimmerman and Matilda Liechty Zimmerman. He was employed by Mason Tractor Company for over 47 years before retiring at age 84 in 2010 when the company closed. He enjoyed volunteering for many organizations throughout his life. Mr. Zimmerman was a lifelong member of the Belvidere First United Church UCC where he was actively involved in the Men’s Brotherhood, taught Sunday School, and was a deacon, elder, and member/chair of numerous committees. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of almost 74 years, Bettye Grant Martin Zimmerman; grandson Jeff Limbaugh; and siblings Murrell K. Zimmerman, Bessie Z. Smith, Mary Z. Upchurch, Rosa Mae Z. Bell, J. Edward Zimmerman, and infant brother Chester Zimmerman. Survivors include daughter Pam Zimmerman of Nashville; daughter Patti (Larry) Limbaugh of Belvidere; granddaughter Lyndi (Steve) Hopkins of Murfreesboro; and great-granddaughters Amy Hopkins and Becca Hopkins; and brother Fred A. Zimmerman. Rev. Jan Whiteman and Rev. Karl Whiteman will officiate at a private graveside service at First United Church UCC Cemetery, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
