Walter Howard (Sonny) Allen, age 83, of Scottsboro, passed away on April 27, 2026.

Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his mother and father, Clara and Aubrey Allen.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Loretta Allen; daughter, Alesha (Steve) Martin; grandchildren, Sydney and Caleb Martin; sister, Barbara (Dennis) Fisher; brother, Jim (Linda) Allen; special aunt, Daisy Looney; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Allen was one of the most generous men you could ever meet, always willing to give whatever he had to help someone else. Each year he lovingly tended a large garden, freely sharing its abundance with family, friends, and neighbors. His kindness touched many lives and he was deeply loved by all who knew him.

Mr. Allen served 6 years in the National Guard. He worked at Word Lumber Company, Campbell Oil, and then drove an 18-Wheeler for over 30 years for Goodyear. His final job before fully retiring was with Jackson County Hospital as a ground’s keeper. He was a member of the Swearengin Church of Christ.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 at Scottsboro Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Scottsboro Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pall Bearers will be Conner Knight, Gavin Knight, Anthony Pence, Terry Bearden, Brad Allen, and Benji Allen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Goosepond Cemetery.
