Mr. Walter Benton Black, age 95 of Athens, AL passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at his home. Mr. Black was born on February 5, 1923 in Limestone County to Walter Lester Black and Mary Susan Janie Moran.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Louise Black; four brothers, Raymond Black, Sam Black, Fletcher Black and Redus Black; three sisters, Clara Holden, Inza Mae Christopher and Mable Black.
Mr. Black is survived by his son, Dennis Black and wife Laura of Athens, Al; grandchildren, Anna Medley and husband Cade of Warrior, AL and Witt Black; sister, Hazel Teeples of Athens, AL.
Services for Mr. Black will be at 1:00PM on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Larry Martin, Roger Martin, Anna Medley, Witt Black and Dennis Black officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:45PM prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Cade Medley, Anna Medley, Witt Black, Dennis Black, Larry Teeples and Dale Miller. Honorary pallbearers are Blake Martin, Landon Martin, Will Martin, Larry Martin, Roger Martin, Preston Martin and Paige Evans.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Dementia Society of America, Comfort Care Hospice or Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives.
