Wallace Edward Jones, 84, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Monday, July 8th, after a brief illness. He was born in Tarrant City, Alabama, to Leonidus J. Jones and Beulah L. Jones. He lived his entire adult life in Huntsville. He was a long-time member of Hillwood Baptist Church.
Wallace was married to Kaye Allison for almost 53 years. They were an amazing couple, and Wallace claimed they never had an argument during their long marriage. In addition to raising their four children, Wallace and Kaye also raised three nieces and a nephew. Their love is reflected in the tight-knit family they created.
From a very young age, Wallace learned the value of hard work and using money wisely from his mother, whom he always admired and loved deeply. He began working as a newspaper boy and popsicle boy at an early age. Wallace was very proud that by the age of 15, he had saved enough money to purchase his first car, even if he was not legally allowed to drive it yet. For many years, Wallace worked as a printer at Redstone Arsenal and as a co-owner and press operator of Madison Printing Company. During this time, he also began a career as a real estate investor.
Wallace had many interests. He owned many antique cars over the years, but he especially took pride in taking his 1961 Corvette to car shows. Wallace also loved to play games and tell jokes. From playing card games to pitching horseshoes, he always found great pleasure in spending time with his children and grandchildren. His playful and loving spirit helped create a home and family full of love. He was always quick to laugh, hug, and say, “I love you.”
Wallace was a man known by many names that he loved: Dad, Uncle Wallace, Jonesy, Little Brother, Grandpa Wallace, Grandpa, Paw Paw, Poppy, and Papa.
Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, Leonidus J. Jones and Beulah L. Jones, and his wife, Kaye A. Jones. Survivors include his daughters, Vickie Shaw, Jennifer Jones (Don), Jodie Connell (William); son, Wallace Jones, II (Deedra); nieces, Priscilla Pierce (Ronald), Mariana Childree (Michael), Sherry Gant (Paul); a nephew, Peter Allison (Karen); a brother, Lymon Jones (Martha); 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by many other family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 13th, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Wallace Jones II officiating. Following the service, burial will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Grandview Gardens at Redstone Village for the love and care provided to their dad.
